History

The 3D Paper Graphics team is led by Chris Crowell, a 40 year veteran and pioneer in the 3-dimensional industry. With a hand picked team of the best paper engineers, graphic designers and illustrators, and a unique selection of patented designs, 3D Paper Graphics guarantees a product second to none.

From an early age, Chris Crowell was fascinated with pop-up books and paper engineering. Beyond the incredible paper mechanics of pop-up designs, Chris was intrigued by the positive response these designs produced - a smile. In 1976, filled with the possibility of business applications for these unique pop-up designs, Chris opened the doors of Structural Graphics in Essex, Connecticut. He quickly built the company into the largest 3D paper engineering concern in the industry by introducing pop-ups into almost every form of print advertising and promotion - from direct mail, POP displays, sales aids, magazine inserts, and more.

Following the sale of Structural Graphics in 2000, Chris purchased Pop Shots Studios, a company known for their unique 3D personal greeting cards. At the same time, Chris launched 3D Paper Graphics to capitalize on his extensive holding of design, structure and voice patents.

Here are just a few of his many firsts:

  • First... to open 3 hand assembly plants dedicated exclusively to assembly of 3D paper graphics.
  • First... to use a pop-up insert in a large, national magazine ad for Yves St. Laurent in 1984.
  • First... to use voice as a promotional device in a national magazine for Absolute Vodka, wishing readers a "Merry Christmas" in different languages.
  • First... to use recorded speech in a direct mail promotion.
  • First... to hand assemble over 20 million magazine inserts by hand in a 4 month period for Joe Camel's 75th birthday promotion. This job was accomplished with the help of over 1,000 hand assemblers and delivered in 72 trailer truckloads!
